The morning will be dedicated to visiting Bolsena, a picturesque village overlooking the Lake, whose origins date back to the 3rd century BC.

The tour will include a guided visit to discover the catacombs in the Basilica of Santa Cristina, which dates back to 4th century AD; a labyrinth of corridors carved in the rock of the mountain; the cathedral/sanctuary, which was the stage for pilgrims on the route of the ancient Via Francigena to Rome.

Two major events marked this place that has its roots in Christianity: the martyrdom of Santa Cristina and the Eucharistic Miracle of 1263, both tangible signs of Christ's work on humans.

Upon request: Lunch of seafood and cooked respecting fishermen's recipes at a restaurant with lake view.

During the afternoon, a guided tour of Marta, a little village of fishermen. The center of this village lies on a hill where, in 1260, Pope Urbano IV had the powerful clock tower built overlooking the Lake.

The houses built into the tuff, external staircases and narrow lanes make this center unique and enchanting. We then walk along the shoreline, where at the end of the fishing day, the fishermen arrange their boats and stretch their nets out in the sun.

The tour continues in Montefiascone: a guided tour of the medieval town inhabited since Etruscan times, when it was considered a sacred area. There are many Roman artifacts because of its geographical position on one of the most important roads, “Cassia.” Even today, thanks to the interest of many Popes regarding its fortification, you can admire perfectly preserved castles and cathedrals.

The guide will first lead the group to visit the overview of Rocca dei Papi, the old town and the Cathedral of Santa Margherita, third in Italy for its majestic architecture. The tour continues within a historic Winery, where a sommelier will accompany guests from the places where winemaking takes place down to the cellars where the wines are kept and refined. The wines which are served during our organized wine-tasting are also kept here.
