THE MONSTER PARK AND VITERBO TOWN

Your english-speaking driver will pick you up at your hotel in Rome and whisk you away from the chaos of the city

A guided tour of the Park of Monsters of Bomarzo. Nestled in a charming natural setting, it was designed by the architect Pirro Ligorio on commission of Prince Pier Francesco Orsini, “only to calm the heart” for the death of his wife Giulia Farnese. The Park is a masterpiece dating to the 16th century, featuring sculptures carved into large blocks of stone. It was popularly renamed Park of Monsters.

Transfer to medieval town of Viterbo.

The historical center of the town, named San Pellegrino, is the most characteristic and well-preserved in Italy, a real jewel showing a typical town of 1200. We visit “Santa Maria Nuova,” one of the most ancient parishes in Viterbo.  It was the first parish of the town (1217). Our visit goes along picturesque alleys to reach the Palazzo Papale (Pope’s palace); built in medieval Gothic style, it is characterised by a loggia with seven arches; for centuries it was the residence of the Popes.

Tasting-Lunch of typical dishes is in one of the most historical and exclusive restaurants of the city; located in the heart of Viterbo and nowadays well-known for its excellent cuisine.
We will lunch within a windowed cloister from the 15th century.
(Appetizers, first and main courses, side dish, cake and beverages are all included)

REINESSANCE FARNESE PALACE

Departure for Caprarola for a guided visit to Palazzo Farnese.

Rich in frescoes and surrounded by Italian gardens, it was founded as a fortress in a pentagonal structure, which was then skillfully turned into a majestic 16th century residence for Alessandro Farnese, the nephew of Pope Paolo III. Inside there is the charming Scala Regia, a wonderful spiral staircase resting on 30 Doric columns. The steps are so large that the stairs can be climbed on horseback!
